How to check your NIOS admission status
After you apply and pay, NIOS verifies your application before confirming it. You can check where it stands on the official NIOS portal with your email address, reference number or enrolment number.

NIOS admission status check: the short answer
Open the Check Admission Status (opens in a new tab) page on the NIOS student portal. Enter one of your registered email address, your reference number or your enrolment number, and select “Submit”.
How to check your NIOS admission status, step by step
These are the steps on the portal as we found them on 28 October 2026.

Go to the NIOS student portal
Open sdmis.nios.ac.in (opens in a new tab). Check the address in your browser before entering anything.

Select “Adm. Status”
In the quick menu with “e-Services” and “Results”, select “Adm. Status”. It opens the “Check Admission Status” page.

Enter one detail
The page asks for your Email, OR your Reference No, OR your Enrollment No. You need only one of them.

Submit and read the result
Select “Submit”. If the result is not clear to you, see what to do if something looks wrong.
Reference number or enrolment number?
NIOS issues two different numbers at two different stages, and both can be used on the status page.

A similar-looking link to avoid
The NIOS portal also has a link named “Admission Status” among its reports, next to items such as “Enrollment by Age”. It leads to a regional-centre-wise report on the NIOS administration site, not to your own application.
To check your own application, use “Adm. Status” or go straight to the Check Admission Status (opens in a new tab) page.
Your student dashboard
Once your payment succeeds, you can also log in with the user name and password NIOS emailed you during registration. According to the Prospectus, the dashboard lets you:
- Print your application form and fee payment receipt.
- Print your identity card once it is available.
- Check the status of the study material NIOS sends you.
- Register and pay for examinations.

If your status is unclear or confirmation is missing
The official sources we checked do not give a fixed time for confirmation. NIOS sends its messages about your application by email and SMS. If something looks wrong:
- Check the email address and mobile number you registered with, including your email's spam folder, for messages from NIOS.
- If NIOS has asked for a document or found a discrepancy, follow the instructions in that message.
- Check your fee receipt. If the payment failed, the Prospectus says to pay again by logging in to the student portal; do not pay twice for a payment that went through.
- Ask the study centre you selected or that was allocated to you, or your NIOS Regional Centre.
- Contact NIOS on its toll-free helpline, 1800-180-9393, or by email at lsc[at]nios[dot]ac.in, as published on the NIOS portal.
Keep your application details safe
Your reference number, enrolment number, OTPs and portal password belong to you.
- Do not post your reference number, enrolment number, OTP or password in comments, groups or public forums.
- Never share an OTP or your portal password with anyone, including us. We do not need them to help you.
- Check your status only on sdmis.nios.ac.in. NIOS publishes a list of fake websites on its portal.
- Do not pay anyone who offers to “speed up” your admission. NIOS accepts the admission fee online only.

How do I check my NIOS admission status?
On sdmis.nios.ac.in, select “Adm. Status”, enter your email, reference number or enrolment number, and select “Submit”.
Can I check my status without an enrolment number?
Yes. The Check Admission Status page also accepts your registered email address or your reference number.
I have lost my reference number. What can I do?
You can still check your status with your registered email address. The messages NIOS sent after your payment, and your student dashboard, may also show it.
When will I get my enrolment number?
After NIOS verifies your documents, fee and details and confirms your admission. The sources we checked give no fixed timeline.
